It feels like just yesterday that HBO’s True Blood was the hottest thing in town (remember that Rolling Stone cover with everyone all naked and bloody? Good times.) The first three seasons of True Blood were a delightful mix of great characters, self-aware campy excess and giant WTF moments, the very definition of a water cooler show. After the late ’90s/early 2000s highs of The Sopranos, Sex and the City and Six Feet Under, HBO hit a minor snag for a while as being the place for the best television when those shows ended their runs, and the debut of True Blood in 2008 helped put the channel back in the cool column.
Of course, HBO now has Game of Thrones and True Detective to get everyone talking, so they’ve decided that is it time to put True Blood out to pasture. And even the most hardcore fans out there have to admit that the show has jumped the proverbial shark in recent seasons (“Blood God Bill” anyone?) and it’s maybe time to call it a day. Luckily, the producers of the show were given the notice that Season 7 would be their last year, giving them time to wrap up all the myriad plot lines with due diligence. HBO has now released the first full trailer for the last season, which premieres Sunday, June 22nd, that features the citizens of Bon Temp, Louisiana, both vampire and human, teamed together to fight off bands of roaming and infected zombie like vampires (zompires?) All I ask is that the show not kill off my precious Lafayette — and that it end on a better note than Dexter did last year. Is that too much to ask?? Check out the trailer for the final season below.
True Blood Season 7 premieres June 22, 2014 on HBO.
