For much of the country, winter has already come, but for those of us waiting to make the return to Westeros for Game of Thrones’Â fifth season, we finally have a start date: April 12, 2015 at 9PM. Jon Snow may have put it best:
The announcement, which came at today’s TCA press tour, was met with thunderous cheers by Game of Thrones fans across the Seven Kingdoms and abject silence from the likes of King Joffrey, Tywin Lannister, Ygritte, Oberyn Martell, Lysa Arryn, and about 300,000 others on The Wall. While little is known about the highly anticipated ten-episode fifth season, we will see flashbacks for the first time ever, and meet a brand new character played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. The show has also been in the headlines recently because it will become the first television to screen in IMAX theaters later this month.
Since you’ll likely need a little bit of levity after the inevitable slaughterfest on Game of Thrones, you will be pleased to learn that Silicon Valley and Veep will both be returning on April 12 as well. Mike Judge’s tech industry-skewering Silicon Valley will return for its second season, airing immediately after Game of Thrones at 10 PM, and will be followed by Armando Iannucci’s Veep at 10:30 PM in all of its Julia Louis-Dreyfus-filled glory. Both comedies will also run for ten episodes, so start canceling your Sunday evening plans now because you’ve got a ten-week-long date with your couch.
