Just in times for the holiday present-buying season, Bloomsbury and J.K. Rowling have released a brand new illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. As announced by Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday, the story has been illustrated by Jim McKay, the incredibly talented artist behind the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: Illustrated Edition that was published in 2015.
Below you can see a couple of the illustrations from the new edition to whet your appetite. And they’re just as gorgeous as you would expect, featuring scenes like the Ford Anglia swooping over The Burrow, and absolutely stunning and detailed portraits of some of your favorite characters like Hagrid, Dobby, and Dumbledore’s phoenix, Fawkes. The colors are rich, and the detail is gorgeous: You can imagine that McKay would have no problem detailing Fawkes’s healing tears or the stitch work on Dobby’s tea towel.
McKay was unanimously chosen by Bloomsbury and J.K. Rowling when they first decided to release all seven titles with illustrated editions. From what we hear, he’s already hard at work on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban which will be released in October 2017.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Illustrated Edition is available in stores now for $25.99. If you’re as big of a Harry Potter fan as I am, you’ll be snatching one up and adding all the release dates to your calendars. If this year and last are any indication, hopefully each book will be released in October as the years spool out. It’s appropriate to have some wizard and witches to grace our shelves each Halloween, isn’t it?
Check out the gallery below and tell us what you think of the new book in the comments!
Speaking of Potter, could an 8th installment be in the works?
