Han Solo knows all about destructive wars in foreign places, and Margaery Tyrell is all too familiar with the treachery of the ruling class. So it makes sense that Harrison Ford and Natalie Dormer have signed on to the new spy thriller, Official Secrets: the true story of a British spy’s attempts to bring to light nefarious actions taken to ensure war in Iraq.

The film is based on Marcia Mitchell’s nonfiction book The Spy Who Tried to Stop a War: Katharine Gun and the Secret Plot to Sanction the Iraq Invasion. The real life hero of this account is British secret service officer Katharine Gunn, who uncovered an illegal spy operation, carried out by the NSA with the UN Security Council as the target, designed to guarantee the passage of the Iraq War resolution.

Dormer will play Gunn, with Ford playing a United States C.I.A. officer. The two will be joined by quite an impressive group. Anthony Hopkins will play a retired UK general, Martin Freeman will play foreign affairs newspaper editor Peter Edwards, and Paul Bettany who will play a newspaper reporter.

The film will be set in May of 2003, shortly before the Iraq War started, and is expected to begin shooting in the UK this May Official Secrets will be directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom).
