Next week, DC Comics is going to give fans an advance look at what’s coming up in August of this year. But we’ve gotten an early peak behind the curtain, and it means that a celebration is order for Harley Quinn!
On August 2, Harley Quinn #25 will mark a milestone of Harley’s ongoing adventures by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner, with artist Chad Hardin. According to DC, this oversized issue brings together “Harleyâs entire cast of crazy characters…to celebrate the birthday of cyborg senior citizen Sy Borgmanâ¦but is there actually a bigger secret behind this gathering?” And if you like classic Harley Quinn, Palmiotti and Paul Dini’s “Harley Loves Joker” backup story will continue with artists Bret Blevins and J. Bone. In that adventure, we’ll find that Harley has spent an incredibly exorbitant amount of money to create a new hideout for the Joker’s gang. But the bill is due, and she’ll have to “take drastic measures” to cover it. Here’s Conner’s cover for this issue.
The Hellblazer is also welcoming Tim Seeley as the new writer and cover artist as August’s issue 13. Seeley told us “Iâve wanted to work on The Hellblazer for as long as I can remember. John isnât quite a hero. Heâs doing his best to get by, making mistakes along the way, and checking off things heâll regret later. Yâknow, like all of us. The Hellblazer is one of the few, genuine horror series DC regularly puts out, and telling icky, creepy, scary stories with just a touch of sexy is totally my thing. And getting to draw the covers as well is the perfect gig for olâ Tim.”
Seeley will be joined by artist Jesus Merino in The Hellblazer # 13, which will begin a new story that will force John Constantine to question if his imagination has been weaponized or if he’s become a murderer.
Future Quest may be over, but Space Ghost is back in a new adventure in Future Quest Showcase # 1. On August 16th, writer Jeff Parker and artist Ariel Olivetti will reunite, as Space Ghost and his teenage sidekicks Jan and Jace join forces with the Herculoids to form a new Space Force and stand against an intergalactic threat that lurks in the shadows.
Finally, there’s a new six-issue Suicide Squad miniseries launching on August 2. Suicide Black Files # 1 is a double bill with two stories in each issue. In the first tale by writer Mike W. Barr and artist Philippe Briones, the terrorist known as Kobra enacts a plot to gain revenge on Katanna by stealing everything that she values, including her soul. And in the second adventure, writer Jai Nitz and artist Scot Eaton introduce the Suicide Squad Black: El Diablo, Enchantress, and the Gentleman Ghost. Together, they are Amanda Waller’s supernatural black ops team when Sebastian Faust goes rogue. Frazer Irving provided the cover, which you can see below.
