Here’s What HANNIBAL Season 4 Would’ve Looked Like

Fannibals like us were deeply saddened to see the beautiful psychological thriller Hannibal end its run on NBC last year, after such a successful rebirth to the franchise created by writer Thomas Harris. We laughed, we cried, we made tons of memes, and we were even rewarded with a wicked collection of adorable Funko POP figures. Season 3 was an intense and literal cliffhanger, leaving us to deal with all the feels. And as we all know now, season 4 doesn’t seem to be around the corner for any planned streaming services. But that doesn’t stop fan-theories and whispers from the enthusiastic cast of the show.

While promoting his new Hulu show The Path, actor Hugh Dancy—a.k.a. the incomparable Will Graham—spoke to the Collider about a hypothetical season 4 plot pitched to him by none other than the show’s creator Bryan Fuller.  “It was a complete restart, without describing it — because who knows, God knows, maybe some way we may be able to do it in the future — but it took us back to the first season in a very unexpected way, and made total sense of that cliffhanger ending; it seemed justified.”

But hold your cannibalistic hors-d’oeuvres! Nearly all of the actors, including the Cheshire cat of grins Mads Mikkelsen, are booked solid for the next two years with other projects. So if this scrumptiously proposed season 4 rebirth of Hannibal does happen, it’s going to take time and patience from all of us.

When asked about the possibility of a Hannibal movie with this plot included, Dancy said, “The answer is I don’t know. I think we’d all be happy to return in some capacity, and the idea of a movie is really interesting. Obviously, one of the things that we did with the show, that Bryan did really, was very languorous, very image-rich storytelling, so how to fit that into a movie, I’m not sure. But the version of the season he described to me … I just know I’d like for it to happen.”

And that is all we’ve ever wanted, Will. For all of us. For now keep your fingers crossed and your organs intact for any Hannibal continuation.
