Lin-Manuel Miranda May Co-Star in the MARY POPPINS Sequel

Looks like Lin-Manuel Miranda—just like his Broadway counterpart, Alexander Hamilton—will never learn to take his time, instead eschewing “rest” and “not working” for doing ALL OF THE THINGS. The prolific MacArthur Genius Grant-having musician, actor, composer, lyricist, object of fandom desire, and total Twitter professional is in talks with Disney to co-star in the Mary Poppins sequel film alongside their potential Mary, Emily Blunt, a source has confirmed to Nerdist.

In a report originally published by Variety, the Hamilton creator is in talks for the role of Jack, a Dick Van Dyke-as-Bert style character, the mysterious jack-of-all-trades (Oooh, OK, I see what you’re doing here, Disney) that went along with Mary’s many varied shenanigans.

It is said that the story at the heart of this sequel will revolve around now-grown Jane and Michael Banks and Michael’s three kids. The family, having experienced a personal loss (which—because this is Disney—we’re going to assume means their mom died), find themselves in need of Mary’s unique magical skills in order to rediscover joy and wonder. Emily Blunt is in talks to play the titular Mary in a film set in depression-era London, borrowing from P.L. Travers’ seven other Poppins novels.

Rob Marshall is attached to direct. There’s no word as to whether or not Miranda, if chosen, will help Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman on the song and score composition part, but one can only hope. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, Life of Pi, and Finding Neverland screenwriter David Magee is attached to write.

What do you think of the news? Will Miranda give away this shot (shot)? Are you tired of all our Hamilton jokes (and if so, too bad)? Let us know in the comments below.
