Much has been said about Halo 5: Guardians‘ campaign mode, and not all of it is glowing. While most agree that Master Chief’s latest outing is excellent, due in large part to the masterful multiplayer component, the story mode leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, it seems like 343 Industries doesn’t have any plans to add campaign DLC, so what’s already there is all that you’re going to get. In an interview with Red Bull, Halo 5 creative director Jonathan Holmes stated that additional campaign content is not currently planned. Here’s what he had to say:
“While we’re always looking for new ways to expand the Halo universe, we do not currently have any plans to release future campaign content for Halo 5: Guardians.”
If you’ve read my review of Halo 5, then you know that most of my criticism of the game comes from my time with the messy campaign. While it was serviceable at best, it quickly falls apart. This isn’t to say it has no value; the tight gameplay mechanics make it an enjoyable experience. But, that being said, I’m disappointed that there won’t be any story DLC.
Content that takes place prior to the events of Halo 5 would be incredibly interesting to see and play. It would be rad to see John-117 go off the rails right after losing Cortana, or maybe even get some more backstory for the other Spartans. A deeper look into the bond that Blue Team shares would give greater context to the events of Guardians. Honestly, out of all the games in the franchise, this is the one that could have used story DLC the most.
Now that you have your hands on Halo 5: Guardians, what do you think about the campaign? Would you have liked extra story content? Let us know in the comments below.
