It’s our favorite time of year — you guessed it, Nerdoween! Since we first kicked off the tradition last year, we here at Nerdist like to take entire month of October and fill it with all kinds of spooky goodness culminating on October 31. This year, I’ve had the pleasure of putting together a series of vlogs celebrating all things Halloween and we’re kicking them off with a special guest: Nerdist News and Bizarre States host Jessica Chobot!
Jess and I both agree, watching scary movies in a group is a ton of fun. But what makes a good group watch selection? First, the movie has to be some form of crazy: crazy scary, crazy out of date, or crazy over the top in its gore. Next, the movie has to be awesome, whether thatâs awesomely bad, awesomely scary, or awesomely inappropriate. Finally, I would suggest not picking a super serious or plot-heavy movie so that you can feel free to talk, scream, yell at the screen, play a drinking game, or any other side activity.
Now that we know the rules, what are some freaky flicks that you should watch with your friends? We’ve got you covered, from campy, old school picks like Sleepaway Camp to terrifying hits like Gore Verbinski’s The Ring and newer selections like Zombieland. Grab your Twinkies and your boomstick, turn down the lights, and get ready for our recommendations for the best horror movies to watch with a group!
For more from Jessica Chobot don’t miss Nerdist News Monday through Friday and the Bizarre States podcast every Thursday right here on Nerdist. And don’t worry, I’ll be back soon with another Nerdoween vlog. In the meantime, what are some of your favorite scary movies to group-watch? Scream your suggestions in the comments.
