Someone check our vitals, because we might be “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” now that news has come that the original members of Guns N’ Roses are slated to headline Coachella 2016. Founding members, Axl Rose and Slash, will headline the Coachella Music & Arts Festival in Indio, California next April.
Sources also say that the band is currently in negotiations for a tour that could see the band playing 25 North American stadium shows. In addition to Rose and Slash being back on stage, the band’s original bassist Duff McKagan will be joining them. This reunion comes as a bit of a surprise to GNR fans, as Rose’s relationship with the rest of the band over the years has been, let’s say, less than harmonious. So much so that he sat out of the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and made his feelings known in a fairly acerbic–albeit polite–open letter on Facebook explaining his actions.
There’s no confirmation on who will be drumming for the band just yet, but we’ve got our fingers crossed that Steven Adler decides to join them. The original lineup last played together in the ’90s, although Rose has toured more recently with other musicians under the GNR name a few times since.
We’ve got high hopes that the stadium tour comes through so that those not able to head to Coachella will be able to re-live some of their ’80s rock days in some small way.
