Psst! Friday night at Gallery1988 on Melrose and La Brea in Los Angeles, one of the most epic art shows was unveiled. In Service of Monsters consists of paintings, prints, sculptures and installations by over 100 artists from around the world, all inspired by the filmography of Guillermo del Toro. You know Guillermo, surely; he’s the director Pan’s Labryrinth, Hellboy, Pacific Rim, and the upcoming (and highly anticipated) Crimson Peak. Pretty awesome, right?
The exhibition is curated by Chogrin and Gay Deocampo. As it says there in fine print, it runs until October 3rd – so don’t fret if you can’t make it this weekend. But to get you in the mood, Chogrin has said that each piece of art will represent the work and vibrant personality of del Toro. In that case, I think we’re all in for a treat.
Here’s a taste of the eerie artwork that will be on display, this one is by American surrealist Glenn Barr:
I don’t know about you, but I find that image so morbidly fascinating. The little girl looks like she’s wearing some horror version of fairy wings, it’s creepy — but absolutely gorgeous, reminiscent of all his films.
Check out the Gallery below for more pieces; they definitely got me excited about the show. And I hope you’ll stop by and check out the art in person, and don’t forget it runs for three weeks. I bet it’ll be as crazy as del Toro’s pop-culture persona!
Let us know what you think of the art in the comments below.
