It might be time to power up the jaegers, because we could be getting closer to another kaiju invasion.
It was just last month that we reported that Pacific Rim 2âs 2017 release date had been pushed back indefinitely. That followed months of speculation that the film was in trouble. This was the statement from Universal Pictures at the time, saying that they were still committed to the sequel:
Legendary and Universal Pictures are committed to having Pacific Rim 2, the sequel to 2013âs Pacific Rim, which generated more $411 million at the global box office, be the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves. To this end, the decision was made to delay the production and release of Pacific Rim 2 so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.
Well it looks like the creative team has done just that. Director Guillermo Del Toro decided to âbreachâ the subject on Twitter yesterday.
PACIFIC RIM 2: Budget and script went in. No answers yet. If anything happens, I will post. If nothing happens, I will just keep rambling.
— Guillermo del Toro (@RealGDT) October 29, 2015
Well that certainly sounds like things have moved along. Itâs interesting that Del Toro mentioned the budget. Could that really be why the film has been delayed? With Del Toro publicly stating the script is in, it probably wonât be long before more information follows.
Hopefully the budget includes enough money to cast a certain little assassin from Game of Thrones that Del Toro wants in the sequel.
What would you like to see from a Pacific Rim sequel? Letâs share our minds and drift together in the comments section below.
