Prior to 2014, director James Gunn wasn’t exactly an unknown figure in the film industry, but his movies tended to have cult status rather than mainstream success. Guardians of the Galaxy changed that pretty quickly, once audiences accepted Marvel’s cosmic misfits as the next major MCU franchise. That hot streak continued with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Gunn has already been confirmed to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the future. What’s left to do for such a filmmaker except forever be immortalized in a brand new Funko POP! figure?
Funko has announced that its new James Gunn figure will be available as a limited edition of 500 to be sold at New York Comic Con next month. Gunn’s figure appears to be wearing a Rocket Raccoon shirt and his signature glasses. It’s fitting that Gunn now has his own figure, since the Guardians have already been immortalized as Pops! and other Funko creations. Plus, Gunn’s stature in the MCU has only continued to grow, and he’s overseeing the next round of cosmic films beyond the third Guardians movie.
Of course, this is far from the only offering that Funko will bring to NYCC. The company also released a teaser video for the other exclusives, which include Thor: Ragnarok‘s Grandmaster and Causal Hulk, Lockjaw of the Inhumans, and two different takes on Old Man Logan.
