GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Animated Series Gets its Very Own Mix Tape

Grab your favorite talking raccoon and prepare to get funky on the space dance floor, because we’re about to get some more music from our favorite galaxy guardians.

On October 16, Marvel Music will release the soundtrack for the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series in both digital and physical form. The album, titled Cosmic Mix Volume 1, features 12 songs that will appear in the first season of the cartoon (available for pre-order now). It’s an impressive track list made up of hit songs from the 70s as well as the 80s.

  1. “Hooked On a Feeling” – Blue Swede
  2. “Funk No. 49″ – The James Gang
  3. “Drift Away” – Dobie Gray
  4. “Walk Away” – The James Gang
  5. “Boys Are Back in Town” – Thin Lizzy
  6. “Shake Your Groove Thing” – Peaches and Herb
  7. “Funk Funk” – Cameo
  8. “Joy to the World” – Three Dog Night
  9. “I Will Survive” – Gloria Gaynor
  10. “Rocky Mountain Way” – Joe Walsh
  11. “So You Are a Star” – Hudson Brothers
  12. “Don’t Stop Me Now” – Queen

The only song that appears on both this album and the film’s soundtrack is the first song, “Hooked on a Feeling.” Considering how associated that song is with the movie it would be weird not to include it.

The soundtrack for the movie, Awesome Mix Volume 1, was a huge hit with Star-Lords everywhere, becoming the 2nd best-selling soundtrack in 2014, behind only Frozen. Awesome Mic Volume 1 was the first movie soundtrack to hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart without any original songs, and has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide.

It will be hard for Cosmic Mix to match that success, but Groot rocking out to Queen sounds like a fever dream I had, so it’ll be finding a place in my rotation.

What songs on this album are you most excited about? Have any suggestions for future Guardians of the Galaxy volumes? Share them in the comments section.
