The gremlins have always caused massive amounts of destruction, but to see a gremlin so massive, it might be capable of destroying buildings and cities in the upcoming third film? According to the lead of the first two Gremlins, itâs an idea heâs long been interested in.
Weâve already reported that Gremlins 3 will not a be a reboot, but will follow the Jurassic World blueprint of resuming the series years laterâin this case thirty years after the original film. If the goal is to use the Jurassic Park franchise as a model, at least one person would like to take that idea a little bit more literally.
In an interview with IGN, Gremlins star Zach Galligan said he wrote a treatment for a third Gremlins movie years ago, and it involved a mathematical concept that would lead to a Godzilla-sized Gremlin.
“A fractal is when you have one thing that’s a piece, and when you put them together it makes an entire piece. So if you had a little baby pyramid and you put other pyramids together youâd make one big pyramid,” he said, “So the gremlins all mass together and form one huge gremlin. Kind of like a Godzilla-sized one that bursts out of London knocking over Big Ben and stuff like that.”
This might seem silly, but so what? The second film is utterly absurd and ridiculous and thatâs why itâs awesome. Pushing the franchise into stranger, more over-the-top places might be exactly the way to go. I mean, what if instead of molding into one giant gremlin, the monster Gremlin is made entirely of smaller ones, like a cheerleader pyramid? Nothing should be off the table for this movie.
Whatever the film ends up being, Iâm just glad Gremlins is coming back into our lives.
