Greg Berlanti Set to Produce, Wants to Direct the BOOSTER GOLD AND BLUE BEETLE Movie

Update: In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Greg Berlanti confirmed that he’s not only producing the Booster Gold movie for DC, he’d also like to direct! More in our original story below:

The comedic superhero duo, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle may get their own movie from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. Greg Berlanti is reportedly set to executive produce and direct a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle film that will be a “superhero buddy cop movie” with a much lighter tone than any of the more recent DC Comics-inspired films.

Booster Gold a.k.a. Michael Jon Carter was created by Dan Jurgens in 1986 as a disgraced athlete from the 25th century who stole superhero artifacts from a museum and traveled back in time to make a name for himself as a superhero. The concept for Blue Beetle dates back to 1939, but Steve Ditko created Ted Kord in 1966, and Kord was the Silver Age Blue Beetle who is most commonly teamed up with Booster. Kord was also an athlete and an inventive genius who was a remarkably angst-free hero.

The Booster Gold and Blue Beetle team originated in 1987 within the pages of the Justice League International comic book series by Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis. Booster and Beetle have been frequently paired ever since, barring the occasional death or line-wide reboot.

Berlanti is so busy in Hollywood that he should be called “No Sleep Man.” In addition to producing Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Berlanti is also the co-creator and executive producer of NBC’s Blindspot and one of the executive producers of The Mysteries of Laura. Berlanti also co-wrote and produced the Green Lantern movie that was released in 2011.

If anyone can get a Booster Gold and Blue Beetle movie made, it’s Berlanti. And wouldn’t it be perfect if Con Men co-stars Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk got to play Booster and Beetle, respectively? Fillion recently mentioned that Booster Gold is his dream superhero role. But if we’re being realistic, the studio is probably going to go for actors who are younger than Fillion and Tudyk.

Comic fans, who would you cast in the Booster Gold and Blue Beetle team-up movie? Enjoy a good “BWAHAHA!” and share your picks in the comment section below!
