GREATEST AMERICAN HERO Reboot Gets Second Chance at Fox

Last year, The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord were behind an attempt to reboot Stephen J. Cannell’s classic comic book inspired series Greatest American Hero. Despite having a put pilot order from Fox, the new Greatest American Hero did not take flight.

However, Fox is reportedly giving Lord and Miller a second shot at Greatest American Hero with a pilot production commitment this go-around, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t changing. This time, writer and director Rick Famuyiwara has come up with his own take on Greatest American Hero, replacing Rodney Rothman on the project. The initial report indicates that Fox is already looking for an actor to fill out the garish red superhero costume that provides its user with powers.

William Katt starred in the original ‘80s incarnation of Greatest American Hero as Ralph Hinkley, an ordinary man who was given a superhero costume by aliens. Hinkley immediately lost the suit’s instructions, which meant that he made a lot of comedic mistakes while trying to be a hero. Robert Culp co-starred as FBI Agent Bill Maxwell, with Connie Sellecca as Pam Davidson. The series aired for three seasons on ABC and its theme song, “Believe it or Not” quickly became a hit on Billboard’s Top 100, rising all the way up to number two on the charts.

Cannell’s daughter Tawnia McKiernan will executive produce the new series alongside Lord and Miller for 20th Century Fox TV. Greatest American Hero will likely be in contention for a slot on Fox’s fall schedule.

Greatest American Hero fans, what do you want to see from the reboot? And do you have any casting suggestions? Share your thoughts below!
