MR. ROBOT Renewed, GOTHAM’s Bringing Back Jerome, and More TV News

You can’t keep a villain down, and that seems to be especially true in the world of comic book television. I never trust deaths because in a world where superheroes roam the streets, there are a more than a few of ways to get around mortality. Speaking of, read today’s TV-Cap to learn about Mr. Robot‘s renewal, the return of Jerome—thought to be The Joker—on Gotham, learn about what’s coming in Fear the Walking Dead, find out about a new TV series featuring Albert Einstein, and more.

Hello Again, Friend. Everyone’s favorite Fight Club-esque look at a mentally addled hacker gone Robin Hood will live to dox another season on USA. The series was renewed for a third season on Tuesday morning. “We couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist, and been honored as one of the best dramas on television,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment in a press release. “Midway through its second season, Mr. Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network. We can’t wait to see where Sam Esmail and the entire brilliant ROBOT team take us next.”

A Resurrection. Season two of Gotham introduced a character they seemed to set up to be their take on The Joker. The discussion about whether Jerome was the iconic villain kind of stopped because he died. But not so fast! Series executive producer John Stephens shared his plans with Zap2it: “It is 100% our intention to bring Jerome back.” He continued, “We’re going to be playing it again this year and basically extending the idea of the cult of Jerome. We’re building the architecture for him to come back.” Stephens said there are underground movements talking about Jerome and that the goal is to set the stage for season four (if they get it). “Hopefully we’ll bring that back in a much bigger way and you’ll see these different versions of the Joker myth,” he said. How to Visit Greendale. Longing to go back to the halls of Greendale Community College over and over again? Hulu’s the place to be. The streaming service has nabbed the sixth and final season of Community, so it’s the only streaming/on demand place to watch the entire series. [Variety]

Updated Drama. Remember Perry Mason? I used to watch reruns of the courtroom drama when I was little because it was one of my grandma’s favorite shows (we also watched Matlock and Murder, She Wrote). Anyway, HBO’s developing a fresh take on the series to be written by Nic Pizzolatto and to star Robert Downey, Jr. as the investigator/defense attorney. They’re considering short seasons, with future installments depending on Downey’s availability. [Deadline]

All at Once. Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino hoped Netflix would stagger the release of the upcoming four installments of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos told TVLine why it didn’t happen during an interview at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour: “If we would not have [released them] all at once the fans would’ve killed us. I’m petrified of those fans; they are so passionate.” Accurate statement is accurate. [TVLine]

E Corp’s Here for You. As of tomorrow, August 17, E Corp is coming to an app near you. The mega corporation known as Evil Corp in USA’s Mr. Robot is launching E Corp Messaging, a “new communication platform.” It will be available for iOS and Android devices. If you’ve learned anything from Mr. Robot, you shouldn’t download it, but aren’t you a little curious? I mean, it does seem to involve Telltale Games.

We Want More Frank. Luke Cage is the Netflix Marvel show on the slate, but what about that Punisher solo series? A Redditor found a screenshot of the Netflix app with 2017 listed as the release date for the spinoff. That could be an error, since Iron Fist and The Defenders are supposed to come out first, but wouldn’t it be awesome to see more of Frank Castle that quickly? [Slashfilm]

Smartypants. National Geographic is jumping into the scripted series game with an anthology drama titled Genius. Each season tackles a different genius with season one focusing on Albert Einstein. Johnny Flynn will play the younger version of Einstein, and Geoffrey Rush is set to play him in his later days. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Oh, Nick. August 21 marks the return of the second half of Fear the Walking Dead’s second season on AMC. Showrunner Dave Erickson talked to TVLine about Nick’s new addiction and how he’ll get what he’s asking for. Yipes. Read the interview here.

Westeros and Rio Meet. One of the athletes competing in the Olympics this summer in Rio is a high-jumper named Brandon Starc. Yep. You can just imagine the Game of Thrones jokes that have flooded social media. See some of the highlights here at Nerdist.

Do you want Jerome to come back on Gotham? Will you be bingeing Community in the near future? Let me know in the comments.
