GOLDEN IS THE NEW BLACK Mashes Up Two Comedy Favorites

What would Netflix sensation Orange is the New Black been like if it had been a mid-eighties NBC sitcom? Wonder no more, as someone out there by the name of Robert Jones has created the opening credits to OITNB set to the opening theme music from The Golden Girls, which, coincidentally, premiered 29 years ago this very week. Say hello to Golden is the New Black.

There have been several fan made updates to the Golden Girls theme “Thank You For Being a Friend” made over the years on Youtube (remember the awesome Super Friends one?) but mashing up Orange is the New Black with The Golden Girls might be the most fitting since both shows have incredible nearly all-female casts who are smart, capable, and incredibly adept at tossing a well-time zinger or two. Oh… and if we have to make direct comparisons between the characters on the two shows? Then Lorna Stone’s Morello is totally the Rose Nylund (Betty White) character, Laura Prepon’s Alex Vaus is Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur) Red is Sophia Patrillo (Estelle Getty) and Natasha Lyonne’s Nicky is the Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan) of Litchfield prison.

Have you seen any other good Orange is the New Black mashups lately? Are you already jonesing for the third season? Let us know in the comments below!
