GODZILLA RESURGENCE VFX Video Shows It’s Not Just a Guy in a Suit

2017 will see the release of Skull Island, the reboot to the King Kong franchise. This will (fingers crossed) lead to a monster movie of epic proportions when Kong eventually has a showdown with the “King of the Monsters,” Godzilla.

Over in Japan, they don’t have to go through a few years of setup. The home of Godzilla, Toho, has released the third reboot in its Godzilla franchise, Godzilla: Resurgence (or Shin Godzilla, depending on where it is distributed).

Going back to the roots of the beast, Toho’s version is the slow, methodical, and deadly creature that he was originally known to be. However, the difference now is that Toho no longer has to rely on dressing up someone in a rubber suit and crushing miniatures to destroy Tokyo. The above video, reported by imag, shows the VFX that goes into making Godzilla in 2016.

While there are obvious things that would require CGI, like the monster and the destruction he causes, it’s the smaller things that really impress me, like the dust clouds surrounding Godzilla or even the hues of the skyline. I understand that CGI has its critics, but when it’s done WELL, it adds to a movie in amazing ways.

Now that you have taken a look at how the film was made, check out the final product in the trailer below.

Godzilla: Resurgence was released July 29th in Japan, and will be released in North America sometime in late 2016.

You can check out more videos from Toho on their YouTube channel here.

So what do you think? Will you be checking out Godzilla: Resurgence when it is released in the United States? Will you watch the subtitled version or the extremely bad dubbed version we have come to love from Godzilla movies? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
