Godspeed, Leslie Nielsen (1926-2010)

Leslie Nielsen passed away Sunday at the age of 84.  He was a great comedy legend and one of my favorite actors.  He was a master of deadpan silliness and was synonymous with the word “spoof” thanks to his work with the Zucker Brothers.  He has acted in more serious fair like “Forbidden Planet,” and “The Poseidon Adventure,” but perhaps his best remembered role was that of Lt. Frank Drebin in “Police Squad” and the “Naked Gun” films, which he would more or less reprise in similar films for the rest of his long career.  For me, though, he’ll always be Dr. Rumack in the 1980 film “Airplane!”

Surely he will always be remembered…

watching The Poseidon Adventure after seeing his comedy is difficult. He’s deadpan serious. I kept expecting him to say something silly and he never did. Truly a legend.

Of course he’ll always be remembered.

    And don’t call me Shirley.
