Itâs no surprise Marvelâs continuing its line of anime with Madhouse following the reception of the Iron Man, Wolverine, X-Men and Blade series, as well as the previous direct-to-video film Iron Man: Rise of Technovore. Â Recently, fans got their first look at the next entry in the successful animated series: Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher.
The shot of Captain Marvel, Iron Man, War Machine and Thor alone makes this a must-see.
According to a plot synopsis from Entertainment Weekly, the events of the film are as follows: “After interfering with a top secret mission, The Punisher is taken into custody by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and Avenger Black Widow. At the orders of Director Nick Fury, Punisher and Black Widow are sent on a mission to stop Leviathan, a global terrorist organization that plans to sell stolen S.H.I.E.L.D. technology to the highest bidder. Now, the vigilante and spy must work together to prevent this technology from falling into the wrong hands. The fate of the world, and of the Avengers, hangs in the balance.”
When it comes to the direct-to-video game, Marvelâs almost consistently gotten its butt handed to it by DC. But these anime films might turn the tide on that front. Theyâre fun, mature, and above all else, good, and good trumps all. Also, itâs really cool to think about Black Widow teaming up with The Punisher.
The release will include two making-of featurettes titled Espionage and Punishment and The Vigilante vs. The Spy. The Blu-Ray will also contain an exclusive concept art gallery for the film.
Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher will be available at all disc and digital retailers on March 25th.
Some things should not be done in anime style. This is one of them.
Please, and thank you!
