Get Colorful DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Character Descriptions With This Random Generator

Insert strong language warning here.

Creating a character for a Dungeons and Dragons game – or any role-playing game for that matter – can be both one of the most fun things and one of the most tedious things. I tend to hit a point where I get bored because I just want to hurry up and play. I get lazy when it comes to creating a developed past even though I know it’s silly since your character’s background informs his or her actions. Luckily, I now have a way to remain lazy and complete a character background thanks to Ryan J. Grant.

Grant has developed a colorful random character bio generator called “Who the fuck is my DND character?” Yes, it is as utterly fantastic as it sounds. Visit the generator and you’ll get the race and class of a character, you’ll learn where the character is from, and you’ll get a personality trait. You could get a “morose dragonborn barbarian” or an “excitable dwarf ranger.” A couple of refreshes gave me these gems:

011715_D&D_Generator2

The “WTF is my DND character?” generator started as a coding project. Grant wanted to learn more about using the .json programming language and wanted to improve his responsive design. He’s populated the variables and claims there are 704,414,880 characters that can be made from the generator. I clicked over and over again (I can’t stop!) and didn’t see any of the same components twice.

Sure, the descriptions are amusing and great for a laugh, but they’re functional too. You can hit the generator for ideas and inspiration. Many of the backgrounds make for fine starting points.

Would you use this as a D&D character building tool? Let us know in the comments.
