Believe it or not, the big screen isnât the only place playing around with beloved properties this year. As it turns out, the small screen is just as eagerly tapping into our nostalgia in order to put a fresh spin on some old favorites. The latest one in the mix is Syfyâs upcoming adaptation of the Bruce Willis-starring Terry Gilliam classic, 12 Monkeys. Now, with mere days to go before the series premiere, the network has unveiled the first nine minutes of the new show to get us pumped.
While we were skeptical of this endeavor at first, we canât argue with how great that opening looks. Itâs dark, slick, and Aaron Stanford (the showâs Bruce Willis) is kicking some major ass. Thankfully, that’s not all 12 Monkeys has going for it: the show is also a mini Nikita reunion! Stanford was one of the stand-out actors of the spy thriller, and Nikita writers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett are credited as co-creators of this new adaptation.
In addition, Syfy blew everyone away last month with their mini-series Ascension, a show that turned out to be far more than the simple premise of âMad Men in space.â So weâre totally ready for the former home of Battlestar Galactica to continue proving it can once again deliver the goods as we head into the first quarter of 2015.
12 Monkeys premieres January 16, 2015Â at 9/8c on Syfy.
