You COULD argue that Mad Max: Fury Road WASN’T one of 2015’s best films. You could try, but you would most certainly fail. Now, after months of hearing about a black and white version of the film, fans can now see what director George Miller is calling the “best version of the movie.”

Reported by IndieWire, the above clip details how Miller has been interested in a black and white version of his Mad Max story since 1981’s The Road Warrior. While the movie was being scored with a cheaper color version of the film, Miller noticed how some of the film’s nuances in black in white made it a better movie. Years later when making Fury Road, he and the film’s colorist Eric Whipp discussed creating a version in black and white. While Miller admits that some of the details of the film are missing with the absence of color, the “Chrome Edition” is the superior version.

From the few clips shown in the video, I have a hard time disagreeing with him. The scene when they are about to enter the sandstorm looks more ominous in black and white. I am really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the movie looks.

The “Chrome Edition” of Mad Max: Fury Road will be available in two different packages on December 6: In a two-movie pack with the color version, as well as part of the Mad Max High Octane Collection, which includes all four films in the series.
