Gentle Giant is apparently bringing all the coolest Star Wars items to Comic-Con this year. They’ve already unveiled their exclusive Jek Porkins bust, and they will also be offering a Ralph McQuarrie-style Luke Skywalker mini bust. Here, Gentle Giant, just take all of my dollars.
I’m far from a completist collector, but I’d consider this a must-have for my shelves. The 6.5 inch x 7.25 inch x 5 inch bust features Luke as Ralph McQuarrie drew him in concept art for Episode IV. The source image shows Luke standing off against Darth Vader, and he’s wearing what appears to be full body armor. I wouldn’t have minded seeing this look in one of the films – maybe in Return of Jedi. Gentle Giant’s bust isn’t an exact replica of McQuarrie’s art, but you can see the similarities.
The sculpture was done digitally and cold cast in high quality polystone. It’s hand-painted, and each mini bust is numbered and comes with a matching certificate of authenticity. It’s a different way to look at Luke, and that’s one of the things I love about Star Wars. Even though the saga has been around for over 35 years, vendors can still find new toys and merchandise because there’s just that much material.
See all the sexy details of the bust in the below gallery.
I normally resist going after exclusives at Comic-Con because I don’t like standing in long lines, but I might have to make an exception for this piece. Are you planning to get one? Let us know in the comments.
