Gaming Daily: Microsoft Slashes Xbox One Price To $350, Again

Nintendo has dominated the gaming-based tabloids over the last couple of days with their announcement of the New Nintendo 3DS XL. Most people have expressed immense excitement about the new gadget, seeing it as a viable buff to the portable system. Others have expressed states of perplexity and irritation, especially those who recently picked up a previous iteration of the 3DS XL over the holidays, thus making their purchase feel obsolete. But as the talk continues on about the Big N and their huge day yesterday, Microsoft has come out and announced some good news for those with an eye on the Xbox One. Find out more about that and other recent gaming developments in today’s Gaming Daily.

Xbox One gets a permanent price drop.

We may be well over a year into the new era of gaming, but there’s still a ton of people who have yet to take the leap and purchase a next-gen console. For anyone who’s had their eye on becoming a part of the Xbox One user base, you’ll be able to “jump in” for $349 starting this Friday in the US.

The Xbox One had its price marked down over the holiday season, which proved to be a good move as the console topped the charts in US hardware sales for both November and December, according to the NPD charts. Perhaps Microsoft saw the increased sales momentum that they ended 2014 with and decided to capitalize on it even more. The PlayStation 4 may have sweetened its $399 pot by simply attaching The Last of Us Remastered to every PS4 unit, but this move by Microsoft makes it more affordable right off the shelves. This could prove to be a paramount game-changer if sales continue on as they have over the last sixty days. Your move, Sony!

Twitch is introducing free-to-use music for livestreams.

Twitch has been doing its best job to mitigate drowning in a pool of audio-related copyright claims and has even gone as far as to tell folks that playing unauthorized third-party music on archived streams could result in legal action being taken against them. Wising up to the situation, Twitch announced today that they’ll be introducing a library of free-to-use music for livestreamers.

“Our community has been vocal about the importance of music for their broadcasts and their love of music in general,” Twitch’s Chief Strategy Officer Colin Carrier stated in the announcement. “By working with both established and upcoming record labels, we are now able to offer music for them to use that is cleared for live broadcasts and archiving.”

Twitch’s new library of ready-to-go music features over 500 royalty-free tracks, with artist like Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, Porter Robinson, and Skrillex all contributing to the featured content. Hopefully the library is robust with a vast selection of tunes across different genres and not too much of a “wub-fest.” Not all gamers are keen to all the bass dropping and what not.

ICYMI: Kitana, Kung Lao, and Goro revealed in the newest Mortal Kombat X trailer.

We found out a couple of weeks back that Kung Lao was making his way to Mortal Kombat X, but it wasn’t until the release of the game’s latest trailer that we got our first look at him in action. Unveiled alongside the hat-tossing Shaolin Monk was the fan-wielding Kitana, as well as the four-armed monstrosity Goro. You can view the trailer for yourself right above this paragraph.

For anyone who’s been paying attention to the Mortal Kombat story, there are a couple of questions to be asked about this trailer. How the hell are Kung Lao and Kitana alive and breathing? Why does Raiden ask Kung Lao “Where have you been?” as if he were expecting him. Gah, we’re less than 90 days way from having these questions answered when the game finally launches on April 14.

Does Kitana look like she’ll a frightening force in MKX arena? Will Kung Lao be as overpowered in MKX as he was in MK9? Bicycle kick your thoughts into the comments below.

That about wraps it for Thursday’s Gaming Daily. Always keep it parked here on Nerdist for all of the juicy video game developments, and to chat about our beloved medium, I’m only one tweet away: @Malik4play.
