Three Star Wars Icons Announced for Battlefront

We’ve finally received confirmation on the next three Star Wars icons that will be playable in Battlefront. Players will square off with the opposition in the boots of Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Emperor Palpatine, when the game launches on November 17. Each character and their three abilities were detailed earlier today by the game’s Lead Hero Designer Jamie Keen.

PrincessLeia
Princess Leia is the first support class hero being thrown into the mix. She provides buffs to her teammates, and players who spawn near her will become snazzy Alderaan Honor Guards. She also dons a powerful squad shield, can kill opposing players in one shot with her offensive ability Trooper’s Bane, and can signal for supply drops that provide her team with power-ups. Good to know that not all of Battlefront’s special characters will be flying around the map like gargoyles.

I expect everyone reading this to be able to guess Emperor Palpatine’s main ability without me mentioning it, but for those who aren’t keen to one of the most memorable aspects of the series’ cruelest villain, he’ll totally be electrocuting his enemies with Force Lighting. This ability also produces chain lighting, which does area of effect damage to opposing players in close proximity of one another. His Force Dash ability allows him to traverse the environment at a swift and intimidating pace. Though Palpatine is decked out with offensive capabilities, he’s actually a support class character too, and can hand out power-ups to teammates with his Imperial Resources ability.

Han Solo functions similarly to a rebel soldier, but is far more mobile, and possess extremely high damage output. His character is designed for lone wolves who like to separate from the pack and get things done on their own. Activating his Rapid Fire ability will allow him to fire his blaster without having to worry about it overheating. He also has Lucky Shot, which is his charge ability that smokes the opposition in one blast. Finally, his Shoulder Charge ability allows him to quickly get into, and out of, battles with aggression.

Certainly there’s more hero and villains to come, and we’ll be keeping an eye out as EA announces each and everyone one.

Capcom celebrates Halloween in Ultra Street Fighter IV

For those who have not put down Ultra Street Fighter IV, having been spoiled by the Street Fighter V beta, Capcom has supplied a little themed content for it’s faithful community to enjoy. In celebration of the spookiest month of the year, players can purchase freaky horror costumes for their favorite characters starting on October 27. Let’s take a look at some of these new garbs, shall we?

There are a total of nine hcostume packs, all available for $3.99 a piece. The complete horror set will run you $19.99, which is quite a bit for a game with a dwindling shelf life, in my opinion. But, I’d imagine that if you went out and purchased Street Fighter Ultra in the first place–a game that’s been remastered too many times to count on one hand–then throwing a little money down for some aesthetic pleasure shouldn’t be an issue.

Is EA out of line with the Star Wars Battlefront season pass?

Though the Star Wars Battlefront beta was a huge success, many have voiced their distaste for the season pass plan EA announced for the game. I dug a little deeper into EA’s approach to Star Wars Battlefront‘s season pass on this week’s episode of Nerdist Play. Is the $50 price tag a bit too high? Are publishers pulling the trigger on announcing season passes a little too soon? Find out in our full piece on this matter.

That about wraps it for Tuesday’s Gaming Daily. Always keep it parked here on Nerdist for all of the exciting video game developments, and to chat about our beloved medium, I’m only one tweet away: @Malik4play.
