It’s Thursday everybody, and you know what that means! We’re one day closer to the weekend, and also, you know, Football is kind of back now. That isn’t the only delightful thing about today, however. There was also a healthy helping of news. In today’s Gaming Daily, Shigeru Miyamoto answers fan questions about the Super Mario Bros. franchise, Activision teamed up with Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski on a live-action trailer for Destiny: The Taken King, Ubisoft snagged Austin Wintory as composer for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Bethesda released a video explaining the importance of the strength stat in Fallout 4, and there’s a massive Xbox One Update that will be rolling out to testers soon.
Shigeru Miyamoto addresses popular fan theories.
It’s hard to believe that the Super Mario Bros. franchise has been around for nearly 30 years. Let me repeat: 30 YEARS. As long-time fans of any franchise will know, with time comes a ton of questions, myths, and theories galore. As we reported yesterday, in celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary, Shigeru Miyamoto sat down today and revealed the truth about some of the things we’ve been wondering for years.
First and foremost, the speculation that our favorite platforming plumber was named after Nintendo of America Warehouse Landlord Mario Segale is absolutely true. Another theory that’s been circulating for quite some time was that Super Mario Bros. 3 was actually a play. Miyamoto-san also confirmed this to be true with a nod. Suddenly the curtains opening, hanging blocks, and shadows on the backdrop make perfect sense.
Although many were nearly certain that Princess Peach was Bowser Jr.’s mom, Miyamoto put that rumor to rest when he cheekily pointed at himself. I don’t know if we can count this as answered, but it was a nice troll on Miyamoto’s part.
Find out what else he confirmed in the video above.

TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski directed Destiny’s new live-action trailer.
With the launch of Destiny: The Taken King just around the corner, Activision released a brand new live-action trailer for the massive fall expansion. Though seeing a band of guardians raid the titanic Dreadnaught in search of Crota’s angry father Oryx was pretty sweet, what puts it over the top is that Activision hired Tron: Legacy (and Oblivion) director Joseph Kosinski for the project. The quality clearly shows.

Ubisoft hired Austin Wintory as Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate’s composer.
Speaking of industry darlings, Austin Wintory, famed composer and Grammy Nominee, was revealed as the composer behind the Victorian London-set Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate–which is set to release on October 23.
Wintory’s love for the era’s music is evident. He noted, “I’ve had a long-held passion for the chamber music of the 19th Century; the intensity one can get from this sort of music is quite distinct from the massive force of an orchestra,”
The game’s score will reportedly be a whopping 3 hours long, and will feature solo performances by both Sandy Cameron and Tina Guo. In addition to setting the vibe for Syndicate, the tunes will also “evoke the prowess and sarcasm” of the twin assassin protagonists Jacob and Evie Frye.

Bethesda releases video explaining the importance of the strength stat in Fallout 4.
I know, I know. It seems like every time we mention Fallout 4, the wait for the game’s November 10 release date seems like it gets further away. But, I think it’s safe to say that we all get a bit excited every time Bethesda has something new to tell us. Today’s bit of content in particular is actually pretty informational. Feast your eyes on the first entry in the Fallout 4 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. video series above to learn more about the importance of the strength stat!

Members of the Xbox One Preview Program to get their hands on new Xbox One Experience soon.
If you’re partial to playing games on the Xbox One, you’ll be happy to hear that Microsoft has provided details for a massive update that’s on the way. The company will be rolling out the new Xbox One Experience relatively soon to members of the Xbox One Preview Program.
Amongst the changes coming, will be the ability to play over 100 Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One, a new guide that allows you to access essentials with a press of a button as opposed to slumming through apps, a completely redesigned home screen, a new community section, a revamped OneGuide, and an optimized store that will make it easier to find what you want.
The company laid out their game plan for the massive overhaul:
- We will roll this update out over time to Preview members who opt in for it. Weâll start with a set of Preview members who have historically submitted the most feedback – it will not roll out to everyone at the same time. Our goal is to start with a group, get feedback, then roll out to larger groups for additional feedback over time.
- If youâre a member of the Xbox One Preview Program, you will get an invitation sent to you in an Xbox Live message.
- From the invitation launch the Xbox Preview Dashboard and select the registration option.
- You can then opt-in by selecting âPreview â New Xbox One Experienceâ.
- If you choose not to participate in this update (you just leave your registration as preview), you will continue to receive âregularâ Preview Program updates going forward. This will not remove you from the Xbox Preview Program.
- New builds will regularly roll out over a period of several weeks to those who opt in, and our engineering team will work to improve the features and fix any bugs they identify throughout the preview testing.
Microsoft is describing this as the “biggest update yet” and a “significant milestone on our road to delivering the New Xbox One Experience. Aside from aesthetic and accessibility tweaks, the most exciting thing about the update is the addition of backwards compatibility, which they announced back at E3. For more details about the changes on the way, head on over to Xbox Wire.
