Gaming Daily: New Installment of CLAYFIGHTER To Release Next Year

After the exciting announcement Kojima Productions made this morning about an upcoming news reveal on Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, it was hard to think of anything else today. But as always, there were a slew of other things happening around the web. In today’s Gaming Daily, ClayFighters is coming back, Unreal Engine 4 is free, and Mortal Kombat X is coming to mobile devices.

Clayfighters

More Blue Suede Goo for you.

In a bit of random news today, it was revealed that the hit SNES title ClayFighter is getting a new installment in 2016. Interplay–which is at the helm as publisher–revealed that the game promises to “remaster” the clay-based fighter and introduce all-new gameplay mechanics.

The upcoming title will reportedly feature “remastered audio and high resolution visuals” and will host returning fighters Bad Mr. Frosty, Blue Suede Goo, Hoppy, Boogerman, Tiny and Earthworm as part of the 20+ roster.

As far as new mechanics go, Interplay stated that it will include “double jumping, air dashing, counters and reversals.” It was also mentioned that every character would have unique moves and “Claytality” finishers. Yes.

The new ClayFighter is slated for a PC release sometime in 2016.

Epic Games has made Unreal Engine 4 free.

The popular game engine developed by Epic Games has been made available for anyone to download and use, completely free of charge. According to the developer’s announcement blog post, the download features the full set of tools used by Epic, and includes 100% of the C++ source code. In addition to that, it was noted that all future updates will be added at no extra cost.

“The past year has been a whirlwind for everyone at Epic Games. Our community has grown tremendously. The quality and variety of creative work being done has been breathtaking. When we asked people to submit their projects to be shown this year at GDC, we had the challenge of picking just 8 from over 100 finalists that were all good enough to show,” said Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney.

He continued, “The state of Unreal is strong, and we’ve realized that as we take away barriers, more people are able to fulfill their creative visions and shape the future of the medium we love. That’s why we’re taking away the last barrier to entry, and going free.”

As for current subscribers, Epic will be issuing refunds for the last month they paid for.

Mortal Kombat X is coming to mobile devices.

In addition to the release of the full console game on April 14, Warner Bros Interactive revealed today that it would also be releasing a free-to-play fighting game with card battling elements on mobile platforms.

According to reports, the mobile edition will feature tie-ins with its console siblings. Warner Bros. noted that playing one version of the title will unlock content in the other. It will definitely be interesting to see how the title works on your tinier devices.

NetherRealm’s other fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us received a fighting/card battling mobile title back in 2013. We’re guessing this one will be in a similar vein.

That’s it for today everybody. Keep Nerdist tabbed for all your upcoming gaming news, reviews, and features.

A new clayfighter game is the most exciting news I’ve ever heard.  Clayfighters 63 1/3 was a personal addiction

  2. epobirs says:

I would have been surprised to see Clayfighter revived as emulated item, never mind a new version.

I’d always had the impression it didn’t do much business for Interplay despite the marketing push. Was it deceptively profitable or is this a vanity project for somebody?
