Gaming Daily: More BATMAN Games Could Be on The Way from Warner Bros.

It’s strange that “toys to life” games have become so prominent in the video game industry. Now, I speak on this because I recently went and bought the LEGO Dimensions starter pack. No, I have no children, or young siblings, but these games are no longer just for kids. Like a good nerd, I also purchased $80 worth of level packs, and separate characters. Their high-quality builds make them great collectibles. I also reviewed Skylanders: SuperChargers, which also stepped up its quality. There’s also amiibo, and Disney Infinity figurines competing in this market. Do you guys enjoy these games? How many collectibles are consuming your desk? I’d be interesting in seeing how many adults also enjoy these titles. Now, time for the news. In today’s Gaming Daily: Warner Bros. may have more Batman games planned, a Fallout 4 video shows why Charisma is so important, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 has a day-one patch larger than the game itself, Ps4’s 3.0 update is now live, and Rise of the Tomb Raider is going to be 15-20 hours long.

Warner Bros. may have more Batman games planed.

You’re telling me a massive publisher might continue with a huge IP that made them a massive amount of cash? I must be living in an alternate universe. Jokes aside, it’s really not at all surprising that Warner Bros. still has plans for the Batman IP. You know, the caped crusader is kind of a big deal. In a discussion about making a successful Batman game with PlayStation Blog, vice president of product development for the Arkham and DC Comics games at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Ames Kirshen, teased new game projects featuring our favorite brooding hero.

“We don’t have anything to talk about at this time, but the possibilities are endless with a character as dynamic and beloved as Batman,” said Ames when asked about what’s next for the IP.

There’s also a chance we get other DC characters to join the fun, “When choosing what DC Entertainment IP we might focus on for any game, it boils down to honing in on the IPs that map the strongest, genre-wise, to what fans are interested in seeing and playing. From there, it’s about getting the development studios with the strongest passion for those IPs to make the games.”

Clearly, he isn’t going into any specifics here, but his vagueness still tells us plenty. Many forget the time before the Arkham series, when super hero games were rarely any good. Having an excellent Batman game was only a dream, and one that we never thought would come to fruition. It’s hard to believe that DC and Warner Bros. would be so quick to abandon a cash making machine.

As for other DC character games, I’m rooting for a Justice League game. The hero group has been teased in the Arkham franchise for some time now, so it’s possible. Rocksteady would be the perfect studio for this type of project.

Be charismatic in Fallout 4.

Surviving in Fallout 4’s Wasteland requires more than just strength, perception, and intelligence. You also need to be charismatic. Bethesda’s comical S.P.E.C.I.A.L. video series continues its ongoing education today with a look at charisma. This nifty little stat will help your character befriend wildlife, avoid addiction, trade, and even keep your allies loyal. In other words, don’t just gloss over this important stat. You never know when you’ll come face-to-face with a bear.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5‘s latest patch is larger than the game itself.

Ugh. If you haven’t heard yet, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is fairly terrible by all accounts and incredibly glitchy. In an attempt to fix many of the issues plaguing the game–and there are a whole lot of those–Activision released a patch that is larger than the actual game. The day-one patch is 7.7 GB, while the game itself is no bigger than 4.6 GB on the PS4.

Here is a statement made to Gameinformer by Activision:

The core of the game is present on the disc and playable without downloading the patch. The patch does contain tweaks that are needed to fully integrate dedicated server support, which is needed if the player is connected to the Internet since the game is always online. The patch also gives the players additional content as well as improved stability and overall experience.

To be fair, the game size itself is small compared to other titles in today’s digital age, but it’s kind of comical the fixes coming in are larger than the complete package. That’s how much of a mess this game is. After so many years of waiting for one of the skating franchises to make a triumphant comeback, this is what the fans get. It’s a shame, really.

Rumors are surfacing that Activision’s license to the franchise ends this year, making this a cash grab with a name they will soon lose. It’s yet to be confirmed whether the reports are true, but it would make sense.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Bear

Rise of the Tomb Raider will take 15-20 hours to complete, says developer.

Come November 10, you’ll have an incredibly difficult choice to make: play Fallout 4 or invest 15-20 hours into Rise of the Tomb Raider. In an interview with Pixel Vulture, Crystal Dynamic’s Mike Brinker stated that completing Lara’s latest adventure will take about 20 hours to complete. Unless, you’re a completionist that won’t rest until you nab all the collectibles and find all the secrets, which will double your play time.

“It all comes down to how you want to play through the game. Running through the game will take you around 15 – 20 hours,” said Mike. “So expect double the play time collecting everything and exploring every secret tomb. In terms of scale, all our hub spaces, the areas that allow you to explore and choose your own way to play, have been increased by three time the size.”

I would take this with a grain of salt. Sure, I completely believe the scale of this adventure will be huge, most likely much larger than anything the studio has ever done. But this is developer speak, which usually translates to an actual play time that is a few hours shorter than what is stated. That’s still a lot of game to play, 12-15 hours in an action-adventure game is perfect.

What really matters is the substance: I’d much rather have 5 hours of pure majesty than 30 hours of junk. Everything we have seen thus far of Rise of the Tomb Raider has looked excellent, so I have full confidence that it will be something special.

Still, I can’t believe it’s releasing on “Fallout 4 day”.
