Gaming Daily- MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 Scene Inspired by UNCHARTED 3

We ended a long, enjoyable, and exhausting weekend at Comic-con with the unfortunate news of Satoru Iwata’s passing. It’s been a gloomy day on the gaming landscape, full of social network tributes and commemorative editorials for the late Nintendo President. Even PlayStation, as a brand, sent their best wishes over twitter:

It’s certainly been a weird day to be a gamer, given that there’s still plenty to be excited about. In today’s Gaming Daily: Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation gains a little inspiration from Uncharted 3, the Halo franchise eclipses 65 million copies sold, Shenmue‘s veteran developers chat about their game developing process, and more!

Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation scene inspired by Uncharted 3.

One of the most intense set-pieces in the Uncharted video game franchise inspired a scene from the upcoming installment in the Mission Impossible movie franchise. Remember the first time you fought to climb back into the cargo bay of a departed plane after being sucked out? Watching it again still gives me the chills, and apparently, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie felt the same way.

When asked how he came up with the plane chase seen in the upcoming movie on twitter, McQuarrie replied as follows:

Justin Richmond seemed to be approve of this nod quite a bit, and rightfully so. It’s very cool seeing movie makers gain inspiration from video games– especially when it’s for the game’s cinematic aspects more so than its gameplay. Also, let’s take a second to give a round of applause to Tom Cruise for doing his own stunts– this one in particular taking quite the balls to pull off. Watch him get “scared shitless” doing the stunt in the video below.

HALO-IMAGE-FEAT-03252015

The Halo series has sold 65 million copies.

The Halo series has sold over 65 million copies worldwide, according to Microsoft. In October of 2014, sales of the series were projected to be around 60 million. It’s safe to assume that Halo: The Master Chief Collection played a big role in this most recent increase, though there haven’t been any official sales figures released for the game.

With the launch of Halo 5: Guardians coming this fall on October 27th, that number is sure to increase above the 70 million mark by the end of the year. Halo 5: Guardian‘s multiplayer is showing a lot of promise, and overall was one of our favorite titles at E3, so a strong holiday season run is certainly to be expected. I’m just ready to finally witness Master Chief going from “face” to “heel”, which is how 343 has been selling the story for this one up to now.

Shenmue

Shenmue devs chat art, music, and more.

A few videos have surfaced on the Shenmue 3 kickstarter page, giving folks insight on music, animation and art in video games from the perspective of the series’ original developers. They’re definitely worth a watch if you’ve been hanging on to every detail about the game since it was announced at E3. Check out the developer diaries right below.

Kenji Miyawaki, Shenmue 3‘s main character design artist:

Ryuji Iuchi, Shenmue‘s music composer:

Hiroaki Takeuchi, Shemue 3‘s animation producer:

Kenji Itoso, Shenmue 3‘s promotion video director:

Quite a few members of the original Shenmue team are set to work on the next installment, so it should be interesting to see how they all adapt their brilliance to the modern age of gaming. They seem to have a keen awareness of their situation, and hopefully aim to set trends with their newest work of art, as opposed to rehashing what they’ve done with the last two games. Either way, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Shenmue 3 and its intriguing crowd-funded development process leading up to its release.
