Gamescom is on the horizon, and it’s becoming more apparent how close the event is with the amount of video game news slipping through the cracks. The dull moments of the summer game drought appear to be over, so let’s not waste any time. In today’s Gaming Daily: Mafia III has been confirmed by 2K Games, Square Enix accidentally confirms the first Nintendo NX game, King’s Quest make it’s return today, and much more.
Mafia III has been confirmed!
Woot! After all the domain registering and twitter teases, 2K has finally confirmed the existence of Mafia III. The publisher sent out an email this morning announcing that the game’s first trailer will go live on Wednesday, August 5th at 5am PT. Mark your calendars folks!
For those of you unfamiliar, the Mafia series is one of 2K Games’ most critically acclaimed action/adventure franchises. The interactive environments and excellent plot made the previous game quite the success, hence the hype around 2K announcing that a new installment is on the way. My only hope is that they make the next game 100% open-world, as opposed to the partially-on-rails approach taken with the previous iterations. Given the trajectory of video games as of lateâwith tons of franchises hopping on the open-world bandwagonâ this isn’t a far-fetched possibility by any means.

Bethesda cannot make anymore Fallout 4 Pip-Boys.
Bethesda went public on the reason why there won’t be anymore Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Editions coming anytime soon: they can’t produce anymore. According to the studio’s Vice President of Marketing, Pete Hines, the folks responsible for manufacturing the items were over-booked as is, and after switching around clients to better accomodate Bethesda, they finally just told them “sorry, this is as many as we can make”. That’s certainly a bummer for those late getting around to pre-ordering the game, and a testament to why you should always be speedy about pre-ordering collector’s editions that you find yourself interested in. At least Bethesda tried to give the people what they wanted.

Square Enix announces a nice batch of Dragon Quest titles.
Dragon Quest XI is coming to the PS4, 3DS and Nintendo’s yet to be unveiled NX console. Square Enix indadvertedly announced the latter bit of that during a press conference in Japan this morning. This is the first game confirmed on Nintendo’s NX console to date. It’s also the first time a Dragon Quest game from the main storyline has been on a PlayStation console since Dragon Quest 8‘s 2004 run on the PlayStation 2.
You have to wonder: does Dragon Quest XI being announced for the NX as opposed to the Wii U mean that Nintendo is shifting its focus to their next system? There was no release window mentioned during the unveiling, but it looks like the game is going to be ready for release sometime in 2016, which would suggest the NX will be too. I’m very excited to play Dragon Quest XI in all of its MMO-esque glory, but I can’t say that the game’s announcement wasn’t slightly overshadowed by the NX slip up.

Kings Quest: A Knight to Remember releases, errors reported on PS4 version.
The Odd Gentlemen’s reboot of King’s Quest is officially out today on the PS3, PS4, PC, 360 and Xbox One. Episode one is available in North America (the EU version will release tomorrow) for $9.99, and has received mixed reviews across the internet thus far. We’ll be sure to get our hands on the game here at Nerdist as soon as possible.
Players attempting to download the game on PlayStation 4 have been reported to be having issues. Sierra claims that they are âactively working with Sony to resolve the matter as quickly as possibleâ. It seems that the issue has only affected those who purchased the game’s Complete Collection, which includes all five chapters of the game as well as a bonus story epilogue for $39.99. We’ll keep you posted on fixes for the issues as they are reported by Sierra.
