It’s been a couple of weeks since our last recap but we’re back and ready to take on a new year in gaming. In today’s Gaming Daily, Kung Lao is returning for Mortal Kombat X, the Awesome Games Done Quick marathon has begun, and Five Night’s at Freddy’s 3 is coming soon. What are we waiting for? Let’s get started!
Kung Lao is back!
In case you haven’t heard yet, a translation of Finnish gaming magazine Pelaaja revealed that Kung Lao will indeed be joining Sub Zero, Scorpion, Quan Chi, Raiden, Kung Lao and Kano on the roster of Mortal Kombat X. But wait, didn’t he die at the end of the last game? Yep, but it looks like he managed to escape his fate.
According to the translation, the next entry in the fighting series finds our characters in a world 25 years after the ending of Mortal Kombat 9. Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade have a child named Cassie, Kotal Khan rules the Outworld and Scorpion is facing off with Sub Zero once again.
Also, it’s noted that Kung Lao will have three of the most diverse play styles in the game. “The differences between Kung Lao’s Tempest-, Buzz Saw- and Hat Trick -variations happen to be the biggest ones yet. With Tempest Kung Lao uses more spinning attacks and has the ability to set his hat to spin around him as a shield of sorts. In his Buzz Saw variation his hat is sharpened with razor blade edges and allows the player to control his hat throws more. Hat Trick is the most experimental of the three, because you can throw and call back your hat at any point you want. This keeps the opponent on their toes, because the hat can extend combos.”

The Awesome Games Done Quick Marathon has begun.
Yep, it’s that time of year again! The bi-annual Awesome Games Done Quick marathon, which runs from January 4th to January 10th to support the Prevent Cancer Foundation, kicked off yesterday with titles both new and old. The streamfest lineup includes the likes of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, F-Zero, Quake II, Contra, and newer titles like Transistor and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.Â
Although several of these generally take a couple of hours to complete, the streamers are utilizing speed running tricks to complete most in under an hour. Players are bringing out the big guns with precision jumping, explosive shooting and other exploits so if you haven’t witnessed a speed run before, this is a perfect opportunity to do so.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 is in development.
Though it hasn’t been long since Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 released, the third entry in the series is reportedly on the way according to an automated email response from the game’s developer Scott Cawthon. Anybody who reaches out to the developer is greeted with the statement that the title is indeed in production at the moment.
Although Cawthon is keeping quiet on the matter, the above teaser image from the developer’s website confirms the news that the creepy sequel is on its way. The developer also warns fans that people have been posing as him on Twitch and Twitter. He notes “I do not have a twitter account or Twitch account. Please make sure to believe only reliable sources such as my official website scottgames.com or the official Steam pages” for the first two games.
