Gaming Daily: Konami Allegedly Ceases All AAA Game Production

Yes, it’s Friday again. That can only mean one thing: there’s more time to play video games. It’s always a good sign when your biggest worry is which video game you’ll be playing during your time off. After the extremely dull summer gaming drought, we are finally at the time of year where there is a dizzying amount of content. With all of that in mind, what will be consuming your leisure time these next few days? I’ll be getting back on that Destiny grind, as I try to prepare myself for the epic battle provided in the newest raid. FIFA 16 is also not too far off, so I’ll be slide tackling my way to the pitch on the demo that is currently available. (I need to prepare for a couple of tournaments, after all.) Now, for the news before you go on your merry way. In today’s Gaming Daily: Konami is rumored to be ceasing all production on all their AAA console projects; we examine the awesome-looking Metal Gear Solid V Online multiplayer; there’s an easy way to farm exotics in Destiny using new items; the new Attack on Titan Koei Tecmo game looks promising; and there’s new DLC for Rocket League.

Konami rumored to be ceasing all console AAA production

Things just keep getting worse over at the house of Metal Gear. Numerous reports are suggesting what we’ve all been fearing: Konami is ceasing all work on AAA console titles excluding Pro Evolution Soccer. The first report came from a French site named Gameblog, and later EuroGamer was able to confirm the original findings. This news leak started off with the alleged departure of Julien Merceron, the Fox Engine director, which has yet to be confirmed as well.

It’s not incredibly shocking, but it does go against what the company had been insisting to fans all year. Originally they went as far as saying the Metal Gear franchsie would continue after Kojima’s departure. Well, you can say goodbye to that dream, as well as any hopes of getting another Silent Hills title. These sources seem to be legit; all we need now is the confirmation from Konami themselves.

Watching this company’s fall from grace has been a spectacle to say the least, and I’d wager that this is just the beginning of the what’s to come. As we’ve been chronicling all of the blunders over the last year, we must remember that money is probably a big incentive to leave the conventional gaming space. They are much more successful in their other business ventures that include pachinko machines and health clubs.

My only hope is that iconic IPs such as Metal Gear and Castlevania find a new home. Personally, I’d like Microsoft to make a push to add these IP to their stable since they have the capital to at least make a tantalizing offer. The last thing I want to see is the next installment of Metal Gear being a mobile game. It would be soul crushing, to say the least. We will keep you updated once Konami speaks up.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Online looks fly

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain sports an excellent single-player campaign, rivaling its predecessors. Completing that alone may take you quite a while, so prepare your body for even more espionage goodness. Metal Gear Online has finally been revealed, and it looks rad. From creating your character with deep customization options to choosing a class that fits your play style the best and beyond, it’s all there for you to become the ultimate weapon. More importantly, you’ll be able to extract your enemies with balloons. Hell yes! MGO will open up on consoles October 6. Peep the madness above.

Easily farm exotic gear in Destiny: The Taken King with a new trick

Destiny always seems to have its fair share of game-altering exploits. From farming engrams in the infamous “loot cave” to pushing Atheon off his ivory platform, Guardians always find a way to work smarter, not harder. The Taken King is no exception. Recently, DivineForcesBro uploaded a video that instructs you on how to easily farm exotic engrams. All it takes is the new “Three of Coins” consumable from our favorite vendor, Xur, and then choosing your favorite Strike that will allow you to get up close to the boss.

Deplete the boss’s health until it only has a sliver of life left, escape to a nice safe corner to consume the item, and then go up to the big baddie with your rocket launcher to blow yourself up along with the boss. An engram should be left there on the floor. Watch the video above for a visual explanation.

If you plan on beefing up your stats in this manner, you might want to do this now before Bungie patches it. If vanilla Destiny taught me anything, it’s that Bungie does not lallygag when it comes to fixing exploits.

New Attack on Titan by Omega Force looks slick.

Koei Tecmo’s official Facebook page has given us some new tidbits of information on their upcoming Attack on Titan PS4 game, which was revealed at TGS. New playable characters were revealed, and though the three amigos will probably be the focus of the story mode, Connie Springer and Sasha “Potato” Blouse will be joining the action. Wording on the post suggested that even more characters will join the fight against the Titans, so keep your fingers crossed for a playable Levi. Training gameplay (watch here) was also displayed that showed some of the basics, including swinging around in your 3D Maneuver Gear. Hopefully Omega Force gives us the Attack on Titan game we’ve all been wishing for.

Rocket League gets new DLC.

The surprise hit of the year, Rocket League, is getting a new batch of content, the comically titled Revenge of the Battle-Cars, and it’s only going to set you back a measly $3.99. The title stems from their PS3-exclusive Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, which admittedly didn’t quite make the same waves as its predecessor. Take a gander at the trailer above for a look at the new gear.

Here’s the full list of content included in the DLC, straight from the PlayStation Blog:

  • 2 Classic SARPBC Battle-Cars, Scarab and Zippy
  • 12 New Decals (six for each new car)
  • 3 New Paint Types (Toon Glossy, Toon Matte, Toon Wood)
  • 2 New Wheels (Scarab and Zippy)
  • 2 New Rocket Boosts (Accelerato and Battle-Stars)
  • 4 New Toppers (Cavalier, Locomotive, Pixelated Shades, Shark Fin)
  • 2 New Antennas (Retro Balls from SARPBC)
  • 5 New Trophies

If you’re short on cash or don’t want the new gear, no worries. Psyonix is also releasing new variations of existing stages for free: Urban Station (Night) and Utopia Coliseum (Dusk). New music and country flags will also be available for free when the DLC drops. The team stated that future arenas will feature “unusual” layouts.

I must admit, I’m kind of hot garbage at Rocket League. Considering my unbridled love for the FIFA video games, it feels like it should be a natural transition from one pitch to the other, but it’s not. Still, the new ways to customize your whip (not the dance move) is a welcome change. I’m so excited, I might just Nae Nae. Yeah, I’ll see myself out.
