GAME OF THRONES Season 6 Will Be Major for Sansa

Attention Realm-lovers: there are potentially minor spoilers ahead for Game of Thrones season 6. And we really mean “minor,” but spoiler culture demands that we give you an alert. You’ve been warned!

Over the past two seasons of Game of Thrones, Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark began to assert herself, and she seemed poised to become a real player in Westerosi politics. But Lord Petyr Baelish’s plan to marry Sansa off to the Boltons didn’t exactly work out in Sansa’s favor, and she was forced to escape her brutal husband, Ramsay Bolton by making a daring leap from Winterfell’s walls with Theon/Reek. (To no one’s surprise, they’ll both be back next season.)

But at Entertainment Weekly‘s SAG Awards party, Turner teased that Sansa’s evolution isn’t over yet—and that she may actually gain some much needed control over her own destiny. “This season is a really, really big one for Sansa,” Turner explained. “It’s probably her best season yet. It’s her really coming into her own. She, this season, really commands the respect that she deserves and she grabs hold of it and she runs with it and it’s really good.”

Turner added that fans would “finally [get] that storyline that you’ve been craving for the past five seasons…it feels like it’s been building up and up to that. You can only suffer so much before she finally gets…the respect that she deserves.”

And what might Sansa do to command that respect? We have a theory. Everyone’s assumed that a certain (probably not dead for very long) member of the Stark family would eventually rally the North against the Boltons. But what if Jon Snow isn’t the hero that the North is waiting for? What if it’s Sansa? Either way, there’s also a pretty good chance that Brienne of Tarth will get an opportunity to fulfill her vows and serve as Sansa’s protector. But without a new George R.R. Martin novel to serve as a guide, it’s all speculation at this point.
