We’re now just about one month away from the time of year I like to call “The Awakening,” which marks the period when I begin making sure I’m in my home each and every Sunday night, ready for the new episode of Game of Thrones to come on. (The rest of the year is called “The Dark Time,” because boy howdy, 42 weeks of the year sure take forever.) The sixth season of the amazing and great HBO series will premiere on Sunday, April 24, and will usher in a new period of the showâone where nobody knows what’s going to happen, because there are no more books to turn to for guidance.
Earlier this week, we told you about Entertainment Weekly‘s awesome Dame of Thrones series of covers featuring six variants, each showcasing one of the show’s amazing female characters. Now, EW‘s got more pictures, including character portraits of those same six ladies, and a few behind-the-scenes photos that’ll spark your interest.
We’ve got the return of Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) this season, which we knew aboutâthis image is surely related to the bit in the trailer we saw of him being menaced by the Night’s King. Here, we see Max von Sydow‘s Three-Eyed Raven probably showing him a harbinger of things to come.
Blind Arya (Maisie Williams) makes us pretty upset, but she sort of did it to herself. All on the road to becoming faceless. But…but…she should keep her face, right?
This is a cool shot of the scene being filmed where Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Theon (Alfie Allen) try to escape the Boltons’ clutches after their leap from the parapets of Winterfell last season.
And, poor Daenerys (Emilia Clarke)… she definitely doesn’t look like the Mother of Dragons anymore, but at least she didn’t die in a fighting pit. So she’s got that going for her.
Below, you’ll find a gallery of the rest of the behind-the-scenes photos as well as the aforementioned character portraits. We’re beyond stoked for this new season, and even more excited that nobody can lord their book knowledge over any of us lowly TV-only people.
What’re you most excited for in the new season? Let us know in the comments below!
