GAME OF THRONES Season 5 Spoiler: Might a Character from Season 2 Return?

Spoiler, spoiler, spoiler alert! If you’re not into ’em, don’t read ’em! And that means this entire post in particular, all you Game of Thrones fans. Because we’ve got some potential, hypothetical, possibly-maybe spoilers about to run amok on this page in regards to the upcoming fifth season. So if yours is a preference of blissful naïveté then kindly get the heck out of here before you ruin it for yourself, OK?

Now that we’ve got that nonsense settled (trust: we hate it as much as you, but Internet, so!)…

Word on the street is that a certain Faceless Man from season two may be making his return to the HBO series in season five — at least if an accidental slippery comment from a talent agent for Tom Wlaschiha is to be believed. According to SpoilerTV, the actor who portrayed Jaqen H’ghar, the Faceless Man of Braavos Arya previously encountered on her journey to The Wall, is set to reappear on the series, bringing the next chapter of the wee Stark serial murderperson to a start.

We’ve included the blurb in full:

“According to the German agency of Tom Wlaschiha, the actor is shooting a 2014 episode of the crime solving series Tatort entitled, ‘Borowski und die armen Kinder von Gaarden,’ and after that, in August, he’ll begin filming on Game of Thrones. The agency notes that Tom is in the main cast.”

If that’s the case, then this is yet another instance of the series deviating from the books in a way that’s sure to twist some A Song of Ice and Fire fan’s underoos into quite a bunch. We, on the other hand, are sort of excited if the rumor turns out to be true. We were a big fan of the Faceless Man’s original, well, face and wouldn’t hate them consolidating characters from her new journey into one that’s a bit more familiar.

What do you think of the news? Let’s hear it in the comments.

  1. John in Ohio says:

Love Nick Kroll.  It will be good to see him back on GOT.   : )

  2. bernard says:

Isn’t J’haquen Hagaar actually Dario, The Mountain, Beric Dondarrion and Tommen.  All of those people have many faces in the show 😉

  3. Eyeballkid says:

I kind of doubt it would be a deviation. The book already hints that the man training Arya in Braavos is J’haqen Hagaar.

    • JohnL says:

Disagree. J’haqen is still involved, but not in Bravos. He’s in Oldtown.

    • JohnL says:

The article, I assume, is talking about consolidating J’haqen with the kindly man. If the Oldtown stuff isn’t happening until season 6, then the show could have J’haqen train Arya before leaving Bravos for Oldtown while Arya stays behind/does whatever she does in WoW.

  4. valar dohaeris says:

A man could always be having other duties. A man might even seek enlightenment in the nest of the Maesters…that or a secret treasure…

  5. Yes,yes, yes! Would love to see him again, replacing someone in Bravos would be o.k by me.

  6. Emily says:

Deviations be damned…. I want him to come back! I loved the character of Jaqen on paper and adored Tom in said role!!!!! Please let this rumor be true!

  7. Fred says:

If you read the books, you would know that Jaqen is believed to have already appeared again in the story, but not in connection with Arya. So, underoos not in a twist.

  8. Callum says:

I’d love to see Bride of Frankenstein Nick Kroll again.

  9. Maybe that Face is based on another man’s Face in Bravos. I agree the actor who plays Jaqen was awesome. I was sad when I realized changing his face had to make him another actor.

Is The Mountain a Faceless Man?

  10. Michelle says:

But, but he changed his face… From all of my knowledge of Martin’s writings faceless men do not go back to previous faces. I liked Jaqen as much as the next guy, and I am aware they are changing things around, but really? Not cool.

    • Bob says:

Same here. I’d love to see him return, but he needs to be played by a different actor. Make-up won’t make up for what faceless man are able to do.

      • Liz says:

Unless – for whatever reason – the Jaqen face WAS his real face (unlikely, I know … but not impossible).

  11. MeiTow says:

Yes, yes, and hell yes! Jaqen is one of the best bit parts on the show and I am keeping my fingers crossed on this rumor!
