GAME OF THRONES’ Opening Credits / LEGEND OF ZELDA Mashup Is A Beauty

Nintendo’s CEO may have dashed the hopes of that Netflix-produced live-action Legend of Zelda series, but that hasn’t stopped some incredibly talented artists from mashing up the beloved game series with some other fantasy television epics.

Our dear friends over at Sneaky Zebra, who belong to the Nerdist Alliance, tipped us off to this gooorrrgeous piece of Legend of Zelda animation. It recreates the land of Hyrule as it appeared in the SNES mega-classic A Link To The Past in the clockwork style of the Game of Thrones title credits. The responsible party is Megasteakman, a sketch comedy team specializing in cinematic videos tailor-made for video game & film lovers.

The same Hyrulian geography was recently used again in the Nintendo 3DS-exclusive title The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, but even Nintendo couldn’t bring the castle, Kakariko village, and the Desert Plains to life quite like this. No detail was left out, right down to the rings spinning around the sun containing Hyrulian glyphs. If there are any papercraft artists out there who could use this as a template and send me the schematics so that we could make our own version of this Hyrule, send them our way please and thanks. Megasteakman even recreated the Master Sword in a GoT-appropriate style at the end of the sequence, affixed right below the title.

Bravo to the animation team of Kial Natale, Adamah Vanarsdale, and Edgar Abreu-Lanza. Bravo I say! Composer Mattia Cupelli reworked the Game of Thrones theme song with a splash of Zelda flavor by infusing it with a bit of harpsichord tuning. Cue the “Song of Stormborns” in the village windmill. Now, does anyone have the Ocarina sheet music for “The Rains of Castamere”?
