Melbourne Might Use GAME OF THRONES’ Locations for Train Station Names

The Seven Kingdoms has its King’s Road, and Melbourne has its Metro railway, but soon people in both Westeros and Australia could be traveling to the same places. That’s because a public contest to name Melbourne’s new underground train stations is being inundated with locations from Game of Thrones.

The Metro Tunnel in Melbourne is asking for help in what they say is a “once-in-a-generation” opportunity to name their newest train stations. We came across this story at Mashable, and reportedly the contest got over 10,000 suggestions in the first two days it was open, with Westerosi locales as the early front runner.

You’re not going to believe this, but we’re totally on board with the people of Melbourne who have submitted names like Winterfell, Highgarden, and The Eyrie. Especially because they appear to be suggesting certain names for certain stations that match up geographically with their equivalents in Westeros. That’s why King’s Landing and Dorne keep getting submitted for the railway’s southernmost station.

The contest is open for nearly two more months, until October 22, so we’re going to bet the number of Game of Thrones‘ places submitted will be as large as the White Walker’s forces by the end. And just like a massive army of the dead, it will be hard for the Victorian Government to ignore all those people when it’s time for them to pick the winners. And why wouldn’t they use those names? Who wouldn’t want to visit Winterfell or the Eyrie?

As long as none of the stations are named Meereen. No fan of the show ever wants to go back there.

Which location from the show would make for the best train station name? Tell us in the comments below.
