GAME OF THRONES Gets Giant Ratings, GOTHAM Finds a Mad Hatter, and More TV News!

Good morning, and welcome back to TV-Cap, your daily recap of the latest TV news! To get you through the early hours of Tuesday, we’ve got word on Game of Thrones‘ seventh season as well as an update on the season six ratings and Blu-ray, as well as Gotham‘s new Mad Hatter, Comic-Con posters for Powerless and Luke Cage, the reveal of another American Gods character, and the return of He-Man!

Game of Thrones season 6 Blu-ray

Game of Thrones. HBO’s epic fantasy series had a huge sixth season. How big was Game of Thrones? According to The Hollywood Reporter, season six averaged 25.1 million viewers across all platforms. That’s a record for HBO, and it makes GoT one of the most watched shows on TV. There is some bad news to go along with that. HBO confirmed that the seventh season won’t be back until next summer, and it will only have seven episodes. The late start also means that GoT won’t eligible for the 2017 Emmy Awards.

HBO also announced that the sixth season will hit Blu-ray and DVD on November 15, with a digital release coming on August 1. [Nerdist, Image: HBO]

The Walking Dead Benedict Samuel

Gotham. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the new Mad Hatter! Benedict Samuel has been cast as Jervis Tetch, another one of Batman’s future enemies in the third season of Gotham. Before Jervis goes full Lewis Carroll on us, the show is giving him a sympathetic backstory of his attempt to find his sister, Alice. As you may recall from the photo above, Samuel had a recurring role last season on The Walking Dead as one of the wolves who attacked Alexandria. Morgan’s attempt to rehabilitate him didn’t really take, but he had at least one noble impulse. Whether Samuel’s new character has a shot at redemption remains to be seen. [TVLine, Image: AMC]

Powerless comic-con poster

Powerless. Warner Bros. has debuted a new Comic-Con poster for NBC’s Powerless by iconic comic book artist Neal Adams. The poster also revealed that comedian Ron Funches has joined the cast that includes Vanessa Hudgens, Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi, and Christina Kirk. They play co-workers at a claims company called Retcon Insurance in world where DC’s superheroes are commonplace. Hudgens’ Emily is the lead character, and she’s looking very Lois Lane in this pose. Luke Cage Comic-Con

Luke Cage. Sweet Christmas! Surely you didn’t really think that Netflix and Marvel would miss out on a chance to give Luke Cage a Comic-Con poster as well? This one is by Joe Quesada, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, the former editor-in-chief, and a very popular comic artist in his own right. Most of the cast of Luke Cage will be at Comic-Con, including Cage himself, Mike Colter. Fans who make it into the Luke Cage panel may also be among the first to see new footage from the series, and possibly even the first episode. [ComingSoon, Image: Marvel TV]

American Gods Season 1 2017

American Gods. Another day, another American God! Starz has revealed the first image of Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, the Goddess of Love from Neil Gaiman‘s American Gods. Bilquis is one of the old Gods, and she feeds on the desire that people feel for her. But not even Bilquis is immune to the arrival of the new Gods, who want to destroy the old and claim their power. We should probably expect more character reveals from this series in the near future. After all, there are a lot of Gods to cover! [Nerdist, Image: Starz]

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Super7 is debuting a new episode of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe on Wednesday, July 20, the first day of Comic-Con. The animation style is from the classic Filmation series, which introduced He-Man, Skeletor, and the rest of Eternia’s combatants back in the ’80s. The new episode will be also released on iTunes and Google Play. [Nerdist, Image: Super7]
