GAME OF THRONES Casts Jim Broadbent, and More TV News

Game of Thrones has attracted some all-star actors over the last six seasons, and they’re not stopping with season seven. Jim Broadbent is coming to Westeros! Get an idea about who he might be playing in today’s TV-Cap, see the first photo from season four of Sherlock, and watch a cute Stranger Things cast Q&A.

#Blessed. Jim Broadbent is a tremendous talent, and he’s making his way to the seventh season of Game of Thrones. HBO isn’t saying anything about who Broadbent will portray in the Seven Kingdoms, only that his role is “significant.” Alicia suspects he could be the head honcho maester at the Citadel, which I would be on board with one hundred percent (darn it, Broadbent has such a gravitas about him). Dive into more speculation with Alicia right this way.

An Anticipated Arrival. Season two of Star Wars Rebels has arrived on Blu-ray, and if you haven’t watched the latest from the Disney XD animated series, you are missing out. What can you expect from the Blu-ray? Kyle A. has a review for you here. [Image: Disney/Lucasfilm]

Ad-Free. Those planning to watch Star Trek: Discovery on CBS All Access just got another subscription option. CBS has a commercial-free version of the streaming service now for $9.99/month (as opposed to $5.99/month for the standard subscription). [TVLine]

Making the Music. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a delightful comedy packed with original songs. The catchy numbers are penned by Rachel Bloom (series co-creator/executive producer and star), Jack Dolgen, and Adam Schlesinger. The trio talked to Variety about how they came together for the project, and their favorite tunes from season one.

Trivia and Answers. To celebrate the official renewal of season two of Stranger Things (huzzah!), some of the cast stopped by Facebook to film a live Q&A. They tackled some trivia questions from the ’80s—that part is endearing but made me feel old—and answered some questions from fans. Could these kids be any more adorable? And while we’re on the topic of the Upside Down, you can hop on over to The Hollywood Reporter for some intel from series executive producer Shawn Levy about expanding the world next season. Wait! One more Stranger Things thing to share: I put together a list of the best moments by character. Read it here.

Saving the World. Bill Nye is the sort of person meant to be on television educating the world, and Netflix knows it. So, they’re moving forward with a new series in spring 2017, Bill Nye Saves the World. Thank goodness. The show will go the scientific route to look at myths about topics such as vaccines and will aim to educate viewers about controversial issues with cold, hard facts. [Nerdist]

Sharing Stories. Mel Brooks stopped by The Tonight Show to promote his new book earlier this week. As a longtime friend and collaborator of Gene Wilder’s, Brooks talked about the loss. This video doesn’t need any more words from me, just watch it. [Nerdist]

V. Serious. Remember Sherlock? Season four is on its way, and we have the first official image of Sherlock and Watson. Is it just a pose that caught Martin Freeman’s best side, or does it say something about what’s ahead? Read Alicia’s thoughts on the image here at Nerdist.

Going to the Streets. Marvel’s Luke Cage is going all in on the musical front. The Netflix series has lined up musicians such as Method Man, A$AP Ferg, and more to give the show set in Harlem a unique aural quality. The way they describe it in the above video, it almost sounds like the soundtrack is a character of its own. [Nerdist]

Grope at Will. We’ve seen some photos from season two of Scream Queens, but it’s time to get your first look at the Fox show. Existing and new cast members talk about the fun and darkness of the series and about moving from the sorority to the hospital. The show returns on September 20. [Deadline]
