In the recent past, the Superego Podcast has taken us home with the late, legendary artist H.R. Geiger and offered a defense for the Metropolis-murdering (allegedly) General Zod.
This time out, they’re giving us a look at the G.I. Joes who are just a little different, who might not be the first you send in to fight. Or the second. Or the third. In the battle against the international terrorist organization, Cobra, the heroes of G.I. Joe sometimes need to pull some unorthodox toy soldiers off the bench to join the roster.
That’s the premise of “G.I. Joe,” the newest animated video from the minds behind the Superego Podcast. Introducing us to future heroes like Green Thumb, Window Face, and poor, poor Pot Roast (don’t worry, he’s here for morale support). Joe leader Duke doesn’t exactly have his pick of the litter with this lot (they can’t all be a Quick Kick or Sgt. Slaughter, you know), but still keeps some next-level positivity going, even if these new toy soldiers make the Refrigerator Perry figure look like Hawk. There is something a little suspicious about that “Claymore” cat, though. Maybe it’s the mustache and the monocle. Never trust a guy wearing a mustache and a monocle.
The most troubling part: thinking about these guys holding their big roll call in the middle of the hot heat of the desert. I mean, c’mon, Pot Roast is right there, proof positive that this is the the kind of thing plastic soldiers might want to do indoors.
