FUTURAMA Theme Song Played By One Musician

Television theme songs have a funny way of weaseling their ways into our brains and permanently setting up shop where otherwise useful information might be. Need to know the quadratic equation? No can do, that’s where the Family Matters song lives. Converting Fahrenheit to Celsius? How about we just sing the Full House theme instead? Mom and Dad’s anniversary coming up? Who knows! “Life is like a hurricane, here in Duckburg…

Even when the shows are long gone, it’s nearly impossible to forget a great theme song especially since some of them are fantastic pieces of music. Not content with just remembering them fondly, Ben over at SquidPhysics has put his considerable musical talents and massive collection of instruments to use recreating themes all by himself. His latest cover of the extended Futurama theme song is simply incredible. The song itself was heavily infused with digital effects which Ben managed to match almost perfectly. In fact, this cover is so spot-on close to the original that we should all raise a frosty glass of Slurm in his honor!

Diving deep into his YouTube channel, it’s clear that Ben is not just messing around with a garage full of gear. The varied amount of theme recreations he’s made is astounding and we couldn’t just sit idly by and not share a few of our favorites. His Diddy Kong Racing video makes use of an almost comical amount of instruments including a melodica, banjo, xylophone, mouth harp, kazoo, and even digitally manipulated whistling. Our absolute favorite, because of course it is, has got to be his Breaking Bad theme recreated with pots, pans and seemingly other found objects. It sounds so perfect that it’s hard to imagine the studio that recorded the actual theme didn’t employ some of the same techniques.

As far as the Futurama theme is concerned, we’d like to think that if Slurms McKenzie was still alive, Ben’s version would keep him partying forever.
