For the second year in a row, FuseFX is nominated for an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Visual Effects category for its work on Marvelâs Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. Whether the FuseFX team will take home the Emmy remains to be seen, but the lead visual effects provider for Marvelâs flagship TV series wants to demonstrate what they do on a weekly basis.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a very visual effects heavy show. But unlike the teams handling the VFX of Marvelâs feature films, the FuseFX team has to turn around their work on each episode in just ten to twelve days. That includes everything from CGI vehicles, atmospheric effects, and explosions in addition to the less obvious effects like CGI set extensions.
“The work we do has to fit in with the Marvel cinematic universe,” said FuseFX VFX Supervisor Kevin Lingenfelser in a short statement. “What fans see on television has to feel like itâs on par with what they see in theaters. I like to say, ‘we do Marvel for television.'”
Ahead of this yearâs Emmy Awards, FuseFX has released a new demo reel of its highlights from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2, including Skye/Daisy (Chloe Bennet) using her new Inhuman powers, the S.H.I.E.L.D. jets, a death caused by weaponized terrigen, and the destruction of The Bus, the customized plane that served as a mobile base for Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team.
While posting the VFX demo reel, FuseFX revealed that their effects team “hasnât had much time to mourn the loss of the Bus as they are already busy designing and building its even more impressive replacement. It debuts in season three.”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return to ABC on Tuesday, September 29.
