Sadly friends, we’re not fooling: Guillermo del Toro has denied that he has directed or will direct an episode of NBC’s Hannibal. I am currently in Toronto for a set visit of del Toro’s FX drama The Strain, and during a roundtable interview with the genre master today he flat out denied that he was directing any of Hannibal this season. What’s more, he brought it up himself and seemed a bit amused at the rumor.
While discussing why he wasnât able to direct a full episode of The Strain in the upcoming season two, del Toro explained that he has to deliver Crimson Peak in May so his schedule has been tight. Then he said this:
By the way, I donât know if it was an April Fools joke like most of the announcements [today], but I didnât direct a Hannibal episode. (laughs) People are saying [that I will] but it came out April 1st, soâ¦
I can’t say that I wasn’t disappointed with the news — del Toro would be an incredible fit for the Bryan Fuller drama — but this came straight from the horses mouth, so there you have it.
Season two of The Strain premieres on FX this summer. Stay tuned to Nerdist for a full report from the set as the date gets closer…
