It was announced this morning that the multi-talented, hilarious, and “multi-show-involved” Fred Armisen will be teaming up with Seth Meyers again, though not behind the SNL Weekend Update desk. Armisen will be doing something possibly even cooler by leading and curating Meyers’ house band at Late Night with Seth Meyers, debuting February 24th.
Meyers tweeted this morning:
Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he’s off shooting Portlandia. #8GBand

In the realm of current late night bands and their leaders — Paul Shaffer and The World’s Most Dangerous Band at The Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Vivino and The Basic Cable Band at Conan, Cleto and The Cletones at Jimmy Kimmel Live, Robin DiMaggio at The Arsenio Hall Show, Reggie Watts at Comedy Bang! Bang!, and, of course, The Roots at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — having Armisen as a band leader is a pretty fantastic choice.
No word as to whether Armisen will lead the band as his character Ian Rubbish at one point or another, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Armisen led the house band as any number of characters, especially the ones from which he’ll be releasing 7″ records.
Don’t forget Alfredo Sauce and the Shy Guys on Ferguson.
Fred did a hilarious version of the Beatles’ Blackbird at Howard Stern’s birthday show 2 weeks ago. Note: it’s “bad” on purpose.
I want Fericito as the band leader.. “Ay Dios mio!”
