Fox’s X-MEN Series THE GIFTED Finds a ‘Different World’ In New Teaser

This fall, The Gifted is bringing the live-action X-Men universe to television. And unlike Legion, The Gifted appears to have greater ties with Marvel’s most famous mutant heroes, including a few characters who joined the team in the comics. However, the focus is on the Struckers, a family whose world is torn apart by the revelation that both of their children are mutants.

Fox has debuted a new teaser trailer for The Gifted in which Amy Acker‘s Caitlin Strucker tells her children that they’ve become part of a different world where they’re now hunted and feared. What’s left unsaid is the fact that Caitlin’s husband, Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) hunts down mutants for the government, and he certainly did his part to help create this atmosphere of hatred. But now that his own children are revealed to be mutants, Reed has sided with his family in the quest to keep them alive.

The new teaser offers a glimpse of Reed and Caitlin’s son, Andy (Percy Hynes), when he is outed as a mutant during a violent encounter at his school. Andy’s sister, Lauren (Natalie Alyn), appears to have a better handle on her telekinetic powers. The trailer also prominently features Polaris, a.k.a. Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont), first in her plastic prison and then on the run with the Struckers. In the comics, Polaris is the daughter of Magneto, and she inherited his command over metals. Blink (Jamie Chung) and Thunderbird (Blair Redford) are also briefly seen in the footage.

Perhaps the most intriguing thing about the latest tease is that it introduces a new type of Sentinel that is much smaller than the models seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past. They may not even be called Sentinels on this show, but it demonstrates its ability to chase down and restrain mutants.

The Gifted was created and written by Matt Nix, with Bryan Singer as the director of the pilot episode. The first episode will premiere this fall.
