Someone is about to die in Springfield.
The Simpsons, which returns for its 26th season on September 28 on Fox, is set to lose a new character – and according to series executive producer Al Jean it will be “an emotional story.” So who could it be? Jean dropped a couple of hints about the episode, “Clown in the Dumps,” teasing that the actor known for providing the voice of the character won an Emmy for their role, and that the character appeared in more than two episodes of the series.
Along with the character death, season 26 will not only feature the previously-announced Family Guy crossover (actually taking place in that show’s season premiere), but we’ll be seeing a Futurama crossover on November 9 when Bender travels back in time to kill Bart in “Simpsorama.” So that officially puts the Simpsons and Futurama in the same timeline, right? The latter series hasn’t been shy about splitting off into different timelines in the past.
But back to the character death, I have my guess. I think among the list of Emmy-winning character performances on the show, only one makes sense, and that’s Sideshow Bob. Or maybe Apu.
Nope, it’s definitely Sideshow Bob, I think. The murderous clown has been a favorite of the series for nearly 25 years now, appearing as recently as last year’s “The Man Who Grew Too Much,” getting a dose of super powers (and a budding friendship with Lisa) after splicing his own DNA seventy ways to Sunday. Kelsey Grammer won an Emmy for the character with the 2009 episode “The Italian Bob,” and I could see the series’ writers or the actor wanting to hang up Bob’s enormously-large shoes.
Whatever the case, we’ll find out which character will meet their end when The Simpsons returns in September.

holy shit what a good sign of Futurama getting picked up again.
Krusty’s Dad
They already killed Sideshow Bob once.
I vote Krusty. There’s nothing new they can do with him anyway.
Sideshow Mel.
Its a known thing that Simpsons and furturama are on the same timeline..
At first, my thought was Sideshow Bob…but then, I realized they already sorta did his death (though it was an elaborate ruse), and my next thought was Rabbi Krustofsky. Would definitely fit with the title of the episode. That’s a shame. I always enjoyed Jackie Mason’s work on the show!
Jackie Mason as Krusty’s Dad. Won an emmy for it the first time around and has returned several times after, if only for bit lines.
Bob makes sense since Kelsy has a new series that looks like it might do well
Krusty’s Dad?…
That was my thought as well.
I think you are spot on with this one
