Fox Releases New X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Photos

Although Bryan Singer’s next mutant opus X-Men: Apocalypse isn’t due to hit theaters for another ten months, that hasn’t stopped them from getting a head start on building up that hype machine of late. First, there’s been all the pictures from the set that Singer has been sharing via his Instagram account, like the most recent pic of a destroyed street in Cairo, Egypt. Then there’s the big splash that the cast and crew of Apocalypse made at Comic-Con in San Diego recently, where they debuted a new trailer. Finally, there was the Entertainment Weekly cover story, one that gave those who weren’t at Comic-Con their first real, good look at most of the characters in the movie—including the titular Apocalypse, as played by Oscar Isaac.

Now, Twentieth Century Fox has released those same pictures that were printed in the magazine in new, higher resolution versions and there’s some interesting take-aways from these pics. First off, although there are two photos with Jennifer Lawrence as Raven/Mystique, none of them have her in the traditional blue make-up. Word is Lawrence wanted minimal time in the make-up chair for this movie, so we may barely see her in the blue get-up at all this time. Can’t say I blame her though.

Also intresting is our first close up of Storm’s costume, which is easily the best look the character has had in the movie series so far. And finally, in the shot in Cerebro you see much of the main cast together—including Xavier, Mystique, Moira Mactaggert, Havok, and Beast—and the one thing I noticed (especially in high res) is that they really haven’t bothered to age anyone up at all. Mystique has an out for this, but I think it’s kind of hilarious that it’s now 1983 and no one has aged visibly since X-Men: First Class, which took place 21 years earlier. You’d think that someone would get the traditional “one streak of grey” in their hair they love to do on TV shows when they do flash forward episodes, but nope. I guess everyone just moisturizes really well and stays out the sun in the X-Men movie universe.

You can check out all eight photos in our gallery below, which include solo shots of Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit McPhee), Jubilee (Lana Candor), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), plus a shot of Mystique and Quicksilver (Jennifer Lawrence and Even Peters) , in addition to the group shot in Cerebro featuring Lawrence alongside Xavier (James MacAvoy), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne), and Havok (Lucas Till).
